Is SEO Dead?

Now that Google has refined its algorithms, Search Engine Optimization is supposedly a thing of the past. That’s not what we believe here at DVC, but there are definitely people out there saying this.
So, what’s the truth? If SEO is really dead, why are so many companies still spending so much money on it? The reality is that first-page search results on Google are just as valuable as they’ve ever been. It’s just a lot harder to get to the first page!
Why is that? Google’s goal has always been to show users exactly what they were trying to find. Unfortunately, earlier versions of its search algorithm allowed a lot of irrelevant or second-rate content to rank highly in results – especially when “black hat” SEO companies used tricks to try to game the system. Google eventually cracked down on this by changing its algorithm, weeding out a lot of irrelevant content. That’s why some people believe that Search Engine Optimization is no longer relevant – because they’re only familiar with the wrong kind of SEO.
Now the only way to get to the front page of Google is by having relevant and useful content and being linked to by other sites that also have relevant and useful content. That’s exactly how a search engine is intended to work, so it’s no barrier to Search Engine Optimization for a company like DVC.
